Open House

Activity Description

I will be helping at the Open House at ASB, which is an event for the parents to meet the teachers and to know how the classes are going to work. I will be there to help the parents with any questions they have and to guide them to the classes and areas where the teachers are available.

Personal Goal

I hope to be able to help the parents with any question they have and to make them feel comfortble at the American School of Bilbao. So, I will be there all of the time giving confidence to the parents and greeting them with a smile and know exactly what to answer. When I see the parents are happy and know where to go I will have accomplished my goal.

Learning Outcomes

1. Increased their awareness of their own strengthd and areas of growth

2. Help at an event with grownup people.

4. Work with my classmates, as eah of us was assigned a specific duty, but will help each other if we need to.

Reflections

Before the activity:

So, for our Business and Management class the teacher asked us if we wanted to collaborate in the Open House at school. We would be there to translate, help in the parking area and assist the parents. At first I volunteered to help in the parking area, but then I realized I wasn't going to enjoy it much and volunteered to be a "ask me" person. I would be at the door telling everyone where to go next and answering any doubts parents had. I felt really excited because it was the first time I did anything similar. I felt a bit nervous because it may be that people would ask me something and I had no idea how to respond. So, I would have to perfectly know the schedule.

During the activity:

At the end, everyone helped out in all the duties. I first started helping parents with directions and questions regarding times. Then , when all of the parents had settled down I helped give out beverages and food to parents and teachers. And lastly, Elena and I started handing out permissions slips to parents for them to sign them and offered them any information required. I feel I really worked collaboratively with everyone because if any of my classmated had any problem we where all there ready to help. We had to learn how to chat with with teachers and parents in a professional way, which helped me to develop new communication skills. We also had to wear business outfits, which was really exciting. I really enjoyed participating in this event and had lots of fun with my classmates helping it to be a success.

After the Activity:

I believe this activity was very enriching, plus it was my first CAS activity, which allowed me to experience what doind CAS is like. I believe I really achieved my goal, as I didn't see any discontent parent. I had to answer lots of questions, and I answered them perfectly, so that really helped me develop communication skills. This activity was also a way to unite the group as we all had to work collaboratively.
