Activity description:

Skiing is my passion since I was very young. I have been approximately 5 years in a ski club called Ski Camp. I could no longer continue it because my parents could not take me every weekend to the ski station of Baqueira, where I went to the ski club. I stopped going to the ski club 2 years ago. Nevertheless, we continue to go skiing (less frequently though). Therefore, I will post my reflections of the important ski trips, like on Christmas or a trip with the class.

Length of the activity:

It will continue over 2years at specific dates.

Personal goals:

My group focused on velocity, and so I haven't been able to learn enough technique to master jumping, unlike my brother, who is really good at jumping as his teacher showed his group a lot of skiing technique that is later useful for every trick you aim to make. Therefore, I want to get better at jumping.

Learning Outomes:

  • Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth.

I already know how to ski, but I want to get better at technique and jumping.

  • Undertaken new challenges

I will undertake a new challenge by forcing myself to jump as I have never done before.

  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities

I will try and give my best at this activity to make it succeed.

Christmas 2014

This Christmas we went skiing with some friends from Seville so I was super excited to get to ski with my friends! The weather was really good and the snow was awesome. My friends presented me to another friends of theirs who had also come from Seville and together with Manu and Isa we skied the difficultest slopes from Baqueria. I ski since I was very small in Baqueira so I know the ski station like the palm of my hand. But, my goal was not to descend down difficult ski slopes in Baqueira, my goal was to jump higher, which with my friends, I practiced, and realized I have to practice more if I want to reach my goal satisfactorily. We went back to Bilbao the 23rd of December to take my friends from Seville to the Airport and returned to Baqueira the 26th to keep skiing with Manu, Isa and with Elena who had also gone to Baqueira the 25th! Unfortunately, the weather did not accompany us. Nevertheless, I still tried to look for bigger jumps to try and achieve my goal.

Christmas 2015

New year, new spirit. This year, my friend from Sevilla, Bego came with us again, and a friend of my brother was also going to ski to Baqueria. So, we skied altogether. I had so much fun. My brother's friend jumped awesomly!! He jumped really high and did amazing tricks, which was awesome because he took us to good places where you could jump. I jumped everything he jumped. However, I only felt once that I jumped really high, the rest were just normal, like the ones I achieved last Christmas. I have not given up, I will continue to force myself to take that fright away from me to be able to jump higher.

Ski Trip to Astun 2016

In February, we had a ski trip with 11th and 12th grade!!! It was so much fun, I had been waiting for this trip for years now. We divided ourselves into three groups, each with a ski teacher: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Elena and I were the only girls in advanced, but that didn't stop us, that motivated us even more. I really felt the group had a really good level, which was great. No one was left behind, and everyone skied fast, whcih was great, because I don't like skiing slowly as it bores me. However, there were not really good jumps in the ski station. There was a snowpark, but when I went there were so many people that it wasn't worth it. We found sort of snow tubes through the slopes which were fun to jump, but they weren't the kind of jumps I was looking for.

Easter Break 2016

This week has been the last skiing week of the season and I feel really sad because I really wanted to continue skiing:( Nevertheless, it has been an amazing week. We came to Baqueira with my cousins, but only my little cousin skiis, the other two do snow, which I also know how to snowboard but I do not enjoy it, I prefer much more skiing. So, I am really close to meeting my goal! I'm sure next year I will achieve it. My oldest cousin (my age) who snowboards, wanted Alonso and I to take him to places where he could jump because he wanted to start practicing that technique (so, similar to me). So, as we went down the slopes we were looking for every jump, but they were not very big. After a while, we decided to go to the snow park. I had never been to the new snowpark before, so I had no idea how it was going to be. When we arrived I discovered the jumps were actually quite high, and they were three in a row, which meant you really had to control, or you could lose your balance and fall. I decided to give it a try after my brother jumped, and it was amazing!! I really enjoyed it. At first I was thinking of skiiping the jump from the middle, because I was afraid I would get too much speed, but then I decided to do the three of them, as I would not come back until next year. My oldest cousing also jumped, but he fell. That means that next year we will come again, and this time I will jump higher, and he will not fall!! While we were skiing back home, we were looking for jumps all around the slopes, and everyone started jumping, including my little cousing and my uncle!!

SKI TEST

This easter break, I also had the opportunity to be a ski tester, that means that I tried on some skies that were going to come out in 2017. The man who worked in the Ski Service shop, where I hired the skiis, told me that, as I skied well, if I could try some skiis from the brand Rossignol that were going to some out on 2017, to comment then afterwards, and say how I felt skiing with them. It was such an honor that I quickly agreed to. They actually were really cool and really liked the experience. I may even think about buying them next year!

FINAL REFLECTION:

So, although I haven't completely reached my goal, I have gotten very near, which I think is very successfull. I am certain next year I will definitely achieve my goal because I ave realized I don't have to be afraid. If I fall, I fall, that's all. After all, failing is how you most success. So ,that will be my goal for next year: fail jumping until I succeed. As for the learning outcomes, I think I hve achieved all of them. I have for sure increased my capability to jump, and have undertaken a new challenge by going tothe snowpark and ddoing new jumps I have not done before. Finally, I didn't give up, and will contiue to sho perseverance during upcoming years.
